A voice crying out. Anita Calà :: ‘V4LAND’ :: by Carla Paiolo
DOC (Disturbo Ossessivo Compulsivo), multimedia project 2012
Anita Calà. The spirit of those who choose the instability of the virtual device to guide us into the division of its time and the saturation of real time. A cry which becomes an immediate gesture with details to elaborate, as if we found ourselves inside a miniature.
A voice crying out, the excess of transparency which disorientates and a reading that obliges you to read it again.
A complex artist, even in the distinctively clear traits that make her insubordinate also to herself. Behaviour that carries with it the pure seeds of rebellion, the feeling of emptiness inside of anything definitive or static, and, not finding yourself, above all, within your own body. A body where presumed senses of guilt dig deep into an existence that is perhaps too fragile.
The transparency of crossed through glass, with which you obtain an authentic vision of yourself – even though temporary – enabling you to see beyond the visible and leaving the possibility of a perfectly clear vision without any obstacle interfering with the clarity of perception.
Crossing her own confines, thus feeling a very small part of an immense reality, a fragment of a whole that vibrates of sentiments and impulses from which you cannot be indifferent, and above all does not want to be indifferent. The pain she experiences is inevitable, sometimes extreme. In this way a tear, out of necessity, transforms itself into a sudden smile; an antithetical weapon but with the same regenerating and liberating function.
The shadow on which the entire work is based, seems to almost evaporate, dispel itself into the central role expressed. You can detect the movement and dimension without the filter of the insane and marginal body which generates it, whose perishable nature is inadequate to defend and protect the heavy weight of its emotions. A body as a relational means with which to reveal and recognise, each time, every new detail expelled from the spirit.
Anita Calà is a sensitive and fragile being to be safeguarded and also possesses al large dose of cynicism with which she activates the processes that lead to a more extended reflection.
An artist who works with a disarming lucidity in the reconstruction of her own fragments with the ability and technicality typical of a miniaturist, but with the immediacy of who, in this moment of time, must act in limited and convulsive times, sometimes in the absence of time.
She moves measuring her own gestures, synthesising in an instant, processes which have had long and lacerating incubation periods.. The fear of death and the joy of living always embrace themselves, but overcoming it is the ultimate triumph.
Every time the artist finishes a project it is almost if she creates a perfect irremovable mental archive consisting of many miniatures. The recognition and the memory of this ability in some ways make her stronger.
Anita Calà was born on the 6th August 1971 in Rome, where she still lives and works today. Anita Calà
